Default Elementalist. Monk or Mesmer has secondary?

I'm making a elementalist/monk or mesmer... Haven't decided which one. Its going to be a pyromancer and I want to do dead a lot of damage. I already have monk as my secondary for my warrior, so I was think if I go mesmer on my elementalist, I could unlock some skills mesmer for PvP maybe? But I like the res on the monk and I think monk will keep me alive longer.

Which is better for a pyromancer?

In my own experience as an elementalist, I've found that I rarely use many skills, if any, from my secondary class... so don't worry too much about it.
I played E/Me up until ascension, and now I'm playing E/Mo. I only use one monk skill though, and I could get by without it easily.
It depends on exactly what you want to do with your build. If you are just going pure damage pyromancer build, it won't matter because you will load your bar with all the fire skills you can and likely won't even have room for secondary skills.
The choice is up to you, neither class has abilities that have a huge effect on the pyromancer's abilities, but they both have a few that are worth looking into... so just decide what skills you want.
In the long run it won't matter, since you can change your secondary as much as you want after ascension.

I was in the same situation as you. I chose Meser because when I ran low on energy I could energy tap for more energy, and when I get low on health I can ether feast and gain health. With monk it would be nice to have the health benefits, but in pve you have your group to hold them while you run back if you have to heal, and in pvp if a warrior sets his sites on you, you will not be able to take a direct assult, healing only slows the pain.

Not true... I play an E/Mo and it's pretty much impossible for any one person to kill me. It takes at least two, and only then if one is a mesmer

The advantage with a monk secendary is that you can be the group healer if there is no monk around.

Im an e/mo and i usually have a high damage build. But now im ascending the missions get real tough and good healers can be hard to find.

I'm currently trying out a mainly smiting E/Mo build in PvP, using the elementalist's large energy reserve for the more demanding spells (and the fact that elementalist primaries don't get targeted as quickly as monks). The only problem is that the majority of the smiting spells are effective on other party members and leaves youself a bit more vunerable (as other monks expect you to be able to completely heal yourself).

The E/Me build is great if you have 3 or more primary monks in your team, it can be incredibly offensive (meteor storm, fire rain and chaos storm causes quite a lot of panic if the enemy is amassed in one location). The only problem is if you are picked on, E/Me's have very few healing spells that are enough in PvP, you rely almost entirely on the monks.

I'm running an E/Me build right now. The only mesmer spell that I'm using is "Arcane Echo" and that spell does not require any attribute points into illusion. So, E/me is alot more interesting and dangerous than E/Mo, but I feel that E/Mo is very stable, albeit a bit boring.

I have an ascended monk/elementalist and am thinking of making an elementalist/monk again (made one back in beta). To be honest I tried making a mesmer many times and never found it appealing to me. I find a lot of necro spells to be interesting though, especially the one that lets you give 3 pips of regen to someone else. At the same time el/mos and all their mana appeal to me. Hmm. ^^

In my opinion, the ele/mo is far more powerful. The ele/me will without doubt pack more damage, but there's a problem. Very rarely either a healer henchman or person will heal you properly, at the righet time, or ever. If you are in a tough situation, you need to be able to heal, and an ele/mes can't do that. An ele/mo may not pack the damage, but it will without a doubt stay alive a lot longer. And, mind you, the main damage is the elementalist part. The Mesmer doesn't add on a huge amount when it comes to damage.
